I'm the luckiest girl! Earlier this week I was given a ticket for tonight's Dave Matthews Band show, which I'll be attending with my two of my "cousins" (via-our-dads-were-friends-in-college. Am I the only one with these? 'Cause I have about 20!) This will be something like the eighth time I've seen DMB, but it'll be Courtney's 77th show. That's seventyseven, guys. Mindblowing.
Anyways, going to the show tonight got me thinking about how I never shared any pictures from when a huge group of us (mostly) Iona kids camped up near Albany for Dave Matthews at SPAC in June. It was a fabulous time with some of the funnest people -- and here's the proof:
I know there aren't any pictures from the show, but I didn't want to bring the DSLR inside! I hope you're all gearing up to have a wonderful weekend - Can you believe tomorrow's December?! Time keeps flying by.
Anyone else have anything cool going on tonight? I'd love to hear about it!
Weeeee! We're leaving this afternoon for Saratoga, camping out with friends and going to a Dave Matthews concert on Saturday night. I'm beyond thrilled. I haven't seen a DMB show in ages, and camping is pretty much my favorite thing ever. I'm also very excited about the drive up, too (3 hours)... but shhh... everyone else is just looking forward to getting drunk... my journeylust always makes me an oddball :)
have you ever seen more excited faces?
Just a little more packing to do before I pick up one of our best friends in Brooklyn (so out of the way). Clothes are mostly taken care of - it's the camera/paraphernalia bag I'm most worried about. I'm packing my dslr (with 18-55mm, leaving fancy stuff home), brinno time-lapse, gorillapod, tripod, batteries, chargers, etc.
I'm specifically excited for second try with time-lapse roadtrip video creation .
(as the first one was wonky & had too much delay between the pictures).
*Also, I must mention, because how could I not...?
I was hit on by a 15 year old on Tuesday night while I was standing outside the bar smoking a cigarette during darts. It was hysterical, and went a little something like this.
Kid: [who'd walked past me 10 seconds earlier than came back] Do you go to New Rochelle High School?
Me: Me? I'm out of college.
Kid: [shocked] Out of college?!
Me: Yea, I'm 27.
Kid: 27. Hm. That's impressive. So are you waiting for someone?
Me: No, I play darts in the bar.
Kid: [intrigued] Oh you play darts?
Me: Yea..
Kid: Well, are you here with someone?
Me: Yea, my boyfriend.
Kid: ...Oh... Ok. :(
I nearly peed my pants. I mean, it's one thing to still get carded for cigarettes, but hit on!? I swear this little munchkin couldn't have been more than 15. Seriously. He looked like he could have auditioned for Everybody Hates Chris, when it first came out. Too cute. Anyway, it made my night.
And might have been one of the better pickup lines I'd ever received. What's your favorite pickup line?
I sorta kinda couldn't have decided to start this whole blog thing with a better Tunesday Tuesday than March 20th.
This story might be a little long, apologies in advance...
Well, first off, here's the jam:
Dave Matthews Band - The Song That Jane Likes (LYRICS, these are important)
linds & i before jr prom. an all-time favorite.
In high school, my best friend Lindsey (born March 20, 1985) once told me, in that "I- have-no-idea-why-really-can't-give-you-a-good-reason" way, that this song made her think of me. It wasn't one that we listened to any more than the others in our early Dave Matthews and folky rock repertoire, but for some reason the opening of the song made me pop into her head. I took it; just never gave it much thought.
In May 2005, Lindsey was murdered while we were in a stupid fight and hadn't spoken in months.
Now, I've never been one for flaunting my tattoos online. This is for a couple of reasons, one of which is maintainingmy originality. I cringe every time I see anotherbirds flying from feather tattoo. Don't get me wrong, I understand that some people aren't as tied to each of their tattoos having deep meaning as I am. I digress...
I knew I'd memorialize her on my skin, and immediately went and got a tiny star tattooed on my foot. Not only had we discussed matching tiny star tattoos years earlier, but I'd even carved one into her ankle with a thumbtack in an adolescent attempt at scarification which would quickly fade (to go with the heart I cut into my foot, duh). But the star wasn't enough for me.
see the tiny sand-covered star on my right foot? near my pinkie toe? it's there, i swear.
I needed more Linds-ness, and it took me a while to figure out how exactly to get it. Until I listened to this song, for the god knows, thousandth or so time. The lyrics finally hit me. "WHILE YOU AROUND HERE PLAY, warm on the wild and far away." Now if anyone was ever playful and wild, it was Lindsey.
I went so far as to piece together bits of her handwriting from an old card:
But ended up going with tattooey (new word I just made up, love it?) script instead:
I've since added even more to the tattoo -- but for the sake of (at long last) brevity, and in keeping with the Tunesday theme, that's quite enough. The Song That Jane Likes inspired one of my tattoos, and reminds me to live like Lindsey.
